Watch Fair is a huge event for all watch enthusiasts! Watch exhibition around the world has been influential in building brands, forging partnerships, raising awareness, and so much more for decades. This is where watch enthusiasts get together and share our appreciation of timepieces.
However, most major world activities is canceled or delayed, due to coronavirus. The world’s two largest watch and jewellery fairs, Baselworld and Watches & Wonders Geneva (formerly SIHH) are not spared with these unprecedented times.
Next Event: 30 April - 5 May 2020 (postponed to 28 Jan 2021 - 2 Feb 2021)
Baselworld is not only the largest watch and jewellery event in the world, but is also destined to become the industry's largest global community platform, active all year round.
"In the coming weeks, we will be presenting a new digital service that is essential and useful to our entire community, and which we trust will meet the needs of the brands that have become even more important in these difficult and turbulent times.” said by Bernd Stadlwieser, Group CEO of MCH.
Watches & Wonders | formally called Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH)
The fair was scheduled for April 25 – 29 (shifted to digital platform)
As watch and jewellery enthusiasts will know, Watches & Wonders Geneva has been transformed into a completely virtual event on www.watchesandwonders.com.
If it had been permitted to proceed as originally intended, the 30th edition of the fair would have taken place in Geneva from April 25 to April 29, with a new theme highlighting the rich heritage of the city's watchmaking.
Not only does the website represent the press but also be very useful to retailers. They use the fair to get to know the latest watches of the companies they wear, on which they base their orders, individually. This makes it important to make this link both for the participating brands and to send the retailers all the information they need.
That will also be the first time the historically trade-only fair has been open to the general public, enabling Watches & Wonders to interact directly with the world's watch owners and connoisseurs. This has been a dream of many of the participating brands for a long time, and one for which the fair had already made preparations for the 2020 edition. With those steps, even in these challenging times, Watches & Wonders is bringing the latest creations of some of the best brands in the world to the world.
Having said that, going completely digital isn't going to be the long-term solution for any luxury showcase in that matter. It's laudable how quickly the organizers and brands managed to save what they could from Watches & Wonders, yet with videos and photographs, no matter how high the resolution, isn’t going to compare to the real thing.
